Service overview

Professional repair, testing and return.

Price and payment

Every unit is different, so the final price depends on what we find on the bench. Not sure what is wrong? Choose the bench test (£45, deducted from the repair if you go ahead). Already know the fault? Order the repair at the standard price. If the fault needs more work, we send you a written quote for the difference and wait for your approval before doing it.

Level 1 – Standard repair £120 The most common fault for this module, confirmed on the bench.
Level 2 – Extended repair £190 More extensive damage or several failed circuits.
Level 3 – Advanced repair Quoted Severe damage, previous repair attempts or data recovery.

Every level includes diagnosis, final test, report and tracked UK return. If the unit cannot be repaired, you are refunded the price less the £45 diagnostic assessment and the unit comes back with the report. No VAT added – we are not VAT registered. Prices and terms · 12-month warranty.

UK postal repair for the BMW and MINI FRM footwell module (Fußraummodul), which controls exterior and interior lighting and, depending on model, mirrors and windows. A well-known fault is memory corruption in FRM units after a low-voltage event – for example during coding, a jump start or a flat battery – which leaves the lights inoperative.

Send us your original unit. We confirm the fault, restore or repair it and return the same unit.

Common symptoms

  • Exterior lights or indicators not working after battery or coding work
  • Lights stay on or flicker
  • Windows or mirrors not responding
  • FRM not communicating in diagnostics
  • Lighting faults stored in several modules

Not every lighting fault is the FRM

Bulbs, earths, connectors and the light switch cause similar faults. If the module stopped responding after a voltage drop or coding attempt, the FRM memory is the likely cause and a bench test confirms it.

Vehicle applications

FRM units are used in BMW and MINI models from around the mid-2000s to the mid-2010s. Fitment is confirmed by the part number on your unit.

Common fault codes

Code Meaning (generic)
U0140 Lost communication with body control module
FRM Lighting output and internal memory faults (BMW specific codes)

Possible causes

  • Memory (EEPROM) corruption after low voltage
  • Failed lamp driver outputs
  • Water ingress in the footwell

What happens on the bench

  1. Intake – photos, job number, housing and connector condition, signs of water or previous repair.
  2. Identification – part number, hardware and software versions recorded.
  3. Data backup – where the unit allows it, memory (EEPROM/flash) is read and saved before any work, so coding and vehicle data can be kept.
  4. Measurements and fault confirmation – memory content is checked, outputs and communication are tested.
  5. Repair – the confirmed fault is repaired and checked.
  6. Final test and report – pass, partial or fail, what was tested and what could not be tested on the bench.

How to send your unit

  1. Order the repair and enter the unit details – part number, registration and fault codes.
  2. Remove the module with the battery disconnected. Note the part number from the label and take a photo of it.
  3. Pack it in an anti-static bag with padding – see our packing instructions – and write the order number on the box.
  4. Post it with tracking or book a collection quotation.
  5. Request a progress update using your order or TTR reference by email or WhatsApp. Return transport arrangements are confirmed in your quotation.

FAQ

Will the module need coding after refitting?

Your original unit is repaired and returned, so in most cases its coding and vehicle data stay in place. If memory was damaged, we tell you in the report what needs to be done in the vehicle.

Do you test the unit before repair?

Yes. The fault is confirmed on the bench before work starts, and the unit is tested again after repair. The report lists what was tested.

How do I avoid this fault happening again?

Use a stable power supply during coding or programming, and do not let the battery go flat during work on the car.

Questions customers ask

What are the symptoms of a failed BMW/MINI FRM footwell module?
Exterior lights not working, light warning messages, electric windows or mirrors not working, and an FRM that cannot be contacted after a battery went flat or a jump start.
Can my FRM be repaired without losing its coding?
In many cases, yes. We repair your original module so the car's settings stay in place. We test it first and confirm with a written report and a fixed price.
How much does it cost?
Bench test and written report £45, deducted from the repair, with a fixed price before any work starts and tracked UK return included.
