Common symptoms of faulty engine ECUs
- No start, no crank signal or immobiliser not releasing
- Engine warning light with control module codes
- No communication with the ECU
- Intermittent cut-out, misfire or limp mode that persists after component checks
Fault codes that point to the engine ECU itself
Generic OBD-II codes, used by all makes (VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Land Rover and others). They suggest an internal ECU fault rather than a sensor or wiring problem.
| P0601 | Internal control module memory check sum error |
| P0606 | Control module processor fault |
| P0607 | Control module performance |
| U0100 | Lost communication with ECM/PCM |
Codes vary by manufacturer. Send us your full fault code readout with the part number.
Possible causes
- Water ingress or corrosion
- Failed internal driver or power supply
- Damage after jump starting or welding
- Corrupted software or failed flash
How we check it
Not every engine fault is the ECU. We confirm the fault on the bench before quoting a repair. Each unit is assessed individually; any repair starts only after you approve the quotation. Repair prices are quoted individually after the agreed assessment.
