BGA Reflow & Reballing Service
BGA reflow and reballing for automotive control units – sent in by garages, auto electricians and module repairers across the UK. Board-level work on the BGA chip that you do not have the time or the station for, with a fixed price per chip and a function test where the module allows it.
When a BGA chip is the problem
Modern control units use processors, memory and graphics chips in BGA packages – hundreds of tiny solder balls under the chip instead of visible legs. Years of heat cycles and vibration crack those joints. The module then works one day and not the next, or stops completely, while every other part on the board is fine.

Services and prices
- Reflow – one BGA chip: £90. For cracked joints where the chip and pads are in good condition.
- Reball – one BGA chip: £180. Chip removed, cleaned, fitted with new solder balls and refitted.
- Chip replacement or pad repair: quoted. When the chip itself is faulty or the pads under it are damaged.
Prices are per chip, with no VAT added and tracked UK return included. If the unit needs other repairs, we quote first and wait for your approval.
How we work
- Inspection of the board and the area around the chip – previous repairs, corrosion, damaged pads
- Controlled heating with a profile matched to the board and the chip size, so nearby parts and the PCB are not overheated
- Cleaning and inspection after the work
- Function test of the module where possible, then a short written report

FAQ
What is the difference between reflow and reball?
Reflow re-melts the existing solder balls under the chip. Reball removes the chip and replaces all the balls with new ones, which lasts longer on boards where the joints have been cracking for a while.
Will the module need coding after the repair?
The original chip stays on the original board, so the software and vehicle data are normally kept. If a chip has to be replaced, we tell you before the work.
Is there a warranty?
Yes – 12 months on the repaired joints. Physical damage, water ingress after the repair and faults in other parts of the module are not covered.
Can every BGA fault be fixed?
No. If the chip itself has failed or the board is badly damaged, we tell you after inspection and you pay only for the inspection.
