Service overview

Professional repair, testing and return.

Price and payment

Every unit is different, so the final price depends on what we find on the bench. Not sure what is wrong? Choose the bench test (£45, deducted from the repair if you go ahead). Already know the fault? Order the repair at the standard price. If the fault needs more work, we send you a written quote for the difference and wait for your approval before doing it.

Level 1 – Standard repair £230 The most common fault for this module, confirmed on the bench.
Level 2 – Extended repair £320 More extensive damage or several failed circuits.
Level 3 – Advanced repair Quoted Severe damage, previous repair attempts or data recovery.

Every level includes diagnosis, final test, report and tracked UK return. If the unit cannot be repaired, you are refunded the price less the £45 diagnostic assessment and the unit comes back with the report. No VAT added – we are not VAT registered. Prices and terms · 12-month warranty.

UK postal repair for engine control units – power supply, injector, ignition and actuator output stages, sensor inputs and communication faults. Your original ECU is repaired, so its software and immobiliser data stay in place.

Common symptoms

  • No start, no communication with the ECU
  • Misfire on one cylinder with good coil and injector
  • Actuator not working with good wiring
  • Engine warning with internal ECU fault codes
  • Water or burn damage on the unit

Check the basics first

Supply, earths, fuses, relays and wiring cause many ECU-related faults. If those are good, a bench test confirms the ECU fault.

Common fault codes

Code Meaning (generic)
U0100 Lost communication with ECM/PCM
P0601 Control module memory checksum error

What happens on the bench

  1. Intake – photos, job number, condition, signs of water or previous repair.
  2. Identification – part number, hardware and software versions.
  3. Data backup – memory read and saved before work where the unit allows it.
  4. Fault confirmation – supply, outputs under load, inputs and communication are tested.
  5. Repair – the confirmed fault is repaired and checked.
  6. Final test and report – pass, partial or fail, with test limits stated.

How to send your unit

  1. Order the repair and enter the unit details – part number, registration and fault codes.
  2. Remove the module with the battery disconnected and note the part number from the label.
  3. Pack it in an anti-static bag with padding (packing instructions) and write the order number on the box.
  4. Post it with tracking or book a collection quotation.
  5. Request a progress update using your order or TTR reference by email or WhatsApp. Return transport arrangements are confirmed in your quotation.

FAQ

Will the module need coding after refitting?

Your original unit is returned, so in most cases its coding stays in place. Any in-vehicle steps needed (for example a basic setting or calibration) are stated in the report.

My ECU cannot be repaired – what now?

See our ECU cloning to a donor unit service.

Compatibility is confirmed by complete part number and hardware revision. A vehicle make or model alone does not confirm that a unit is supported. Send a label photo before ordering.

Questions customers ask

What are the signs of a faulty engine ECU?
No start with no communication to the engine ECU, the engine cutting out, many unrelated fault codes at once, the engine warning light with communication errors, or an ECU damaged by water. A weak battery, blown fuse or wiring fault can look the same, so we test the ECU on the bench first.
Can I fit a used ECU from another car?
Not straight away – a used ECU carries the other car's immobiliser data and the car will not start. The data from your original ECU has to be transferred to the replacement. We do this as ECU cloning, or supply a tested used ECU already cloned to your car.
My ECU got wet – is it worth repairing?
Sometimes. It depends on how much corrosion there is on the board. We inspect and test it and tell you honestly whether a repair or a cloned replacement ECU is the better option.
How much does ECU repair cost?
Bench test and written report £45, deducted from the repair. Repair from £230. ECU cloning to a replacement unit is offered as a separate service. You get a fixed price before any work starts.
