SRS / Airbag Module Repair & Crash Data Reset
After a collision the airbag control module stores crash data and locks itself, so the SRS warning light stays on even after the deployed parts have been replaced. We read the module on the bench, clear the crash data where the unit allows it, check it and return your original module with its coding.
- Original unit repaired & returned
- Tested before and after repair
- Written test report
- Free tracked UK return
- No VAT added
Common symptoms
- SRS / airbag warning light on after an accident
- Crash data or crash detected fault stored in the airbag module
- No communication with the airbag module (U0151)
- Airbag light on after water ingress or a voltage spike
- Module locked after a seat, seatbelt or wiring repair
Before you send the unit
- Note the part number from the label and take a clear photo of it
- Read and write down all fault codes, including those in other modules
- Check wiring, fuses and supply first, so you know the module is the likely cause
- Pack it using our packing instructions
Contact us with the module part number and fault details so we can confirm availability, the assessment price and delivery arrangements before booking. No work starts without your approval. See how it works.

Short answer: when an airbag or seatbelt pretensioner deploys, the airbag control module (SRS module, also called ACU or RCM) records the event as crash data and stays locked until it is reset or replaced. Clearing the crash data lets you keep the original module – but only after every deployed part (airbags, pretensioners and any damaged sensors or wiring) has been replaced.
What is crash data?
The airbag control module monitors the crash sensors, seat occupancy and seatbelt buckles. When it fires an airbag or pretensioner, it writes a record of the event into its memory and sets a permanent fault. On most vehicles this fault cannot be cleared with a diagnostic tool, so the SRS warning light stays on and the system cannot protect occupants until the module is reset or replaced.
What we do with your module
- Identification – part number, hardware and software versions recorded.
- Memory backup – the module memory is read and saved before any work.
- Crash data clearing – crash records are removed from the memory where the unit allows it, keeping the vehicle coding.
- Bench check – power supply and communication are checked on the bench; any internal fault found is reported to you before further work.
- Report – what was cleared, what was checked and what must be checked in the vehicle.
Common fault codes
| Code | Meaning (generic) |
|---|---|
U0151 |
Lost communication with restraints control module |
B0001 |
Driver frontal stage 1 deployment control (circuit fault) |
| Crash data stored | Manufacturer-specific "crash detected / crash recorded" code – cannot be cleared with a scan tool |
Manufacturer codes vary – please send the full code list read from the airbag module with your request.
Before you send an airbag module
- Replace every deployed airbag and seatbelt pretensioner, and any damaged crash sensors, clock spring or wiring.
- Disconnect the battery and wait before unplugging the module, as the vehicle manufacturer specifies.
- Note the part number from the label and send us the fault codes.
A reset module in a car with unreplaced deployed parts will not protect occupants. We clear crash data only for vehicles that are being properly repaired.
MOT and the airbag warning light
An airbag (SRS) warning lamp that shows a fault in the system can fail the MOT. After the deployed parts are replaced and the module reset, the system must pass its self-test with the warning lamp going out.
After refitting
The original module keeps its coding, so in most cases it works after refitting. Some vehicles need a fault memory clear or a basic setting with a diagnostic tool – this is stated in the report.
Airbag module FAQ
Can you reset a module that is not from my car?
Ask us first with the part number. A module from another vehicle may need coding to your vehicle.
Is clearing crash data legal?
Resetting the module is a normal repair step after the deployed parts have been replaced. It must not be used to hide accident damage when selling a vehicle.
Will the airbags work after the reset?
The module is checked on the bench. The final check is the system self-test in the vehicle with all parts replaced and connected.

How the repair works
Order the repair by part number, or send a repair request if you are unsure.
Post it with tracking or book our courier collection. You get a TTR job number.
We test the unit and confirm the fault. Extra work is quoted first.
The faulty circuit is repaired and the unit is tested again with the same checks.
You get a written result and the unit back by tracked delivery.
Repairs in this category
Repairs in this category are assessed individually. Send us the part number, vehicle and symptoms and we will reply with an assessment before you post anything.

Can my original unit be repaired instead of replaced?
In many cases yes. We test your own unit on the bench, find the faulty circuit and repair it. Because it is your original unit, it usually keeps its coding and vehicle data. If it cannot be repaired, we tell you before any further work.
What if the unit turns out to be unrepairable?
You pay only the bench test fee shown on the repair page, and the unit is returned to you. Any extra work beyond the ordered repair is quoted first and done only with your approval.
How do I know the repair was successful?
Every unit is checked before and after repair with the tests available for that module type. The report states the result (pass, partial or fail), what was tested and what could not be tested on the bench.
Do I need coding or calibration after fitting?
An original unit normally goes back without coding. Some systems need a basic setting or calibration in the vehicle after refitting; where this applies, it is stated on the repair page and in the report.
How do I follow my repair?
Each job gets a TTR number and its own status page, updated as the unit moves from receipt to diagnosis, repair and return.
